How To Clean Irobot Filter
Washing Roomba 800/900 series filters?
The very latest news and updates for the iRobot Roomba robotic vacuum, the Scooba Robotic Washer and the Dirt Dog workshop sweeper. All discussion and troubleshooting questions go here.
Washing Roomba 800/900 series filters?
I have read that you can wash the 800/900 series HEPA filter, the ones with the yellow tab. The only thing they say is to make sure they are 100% dry before using them again. Has anyone had any luck doing this and if they used any time of cleaning agent to help pull the dirt out of the filter fibers? My plan is to just start buying generic ones after the originals run out because they are much cheaper and get tossed away. I change mine every 30 days. Thank you!

One unwashed filter can last the life of the robot. (The filters have some type of chemical treatment on them washing the filter will remove the chemical coating)
My tips for keeping filter clean
Empty bin often
Remove filter and gently tap
When the filter is removed wipe the inside of of the bin to clean the dirt that clings to the plastic (The plastic bin acts as a pre filter, the dirt build up is caused by static electricity. If you do not regularly clean the bin that yuck will build up and end up in the filter)
Vacuum the filter or better yet, blow out with an air compressor.
I also do not run the robot in excessively dirty areas, I pre clean before running the robot.

I don't agree. I do all of that and blow out the filters however over time the amount of air that passes through the filter is diminished. When I put a fresh filter in the air blowing out the back is stronger and it picks up more debris. My question was about washing the filters. Keeping them clean doesn't seem to lengthen their longevity. That harder draw on the motor will hurt the unit over time. This may work for you and thank you for replying but I need another solution. Generic ones may be the way to go.

Here is a previous downgrade thread
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16017
I just got my 960 and 980 and will mod the Roomba filter to use the original Neato filter
Are there any disassembly pics of the 900 series filter?
I have never had any luck washing filters, although I did notice it was recommended by Cnet
Downgrading the filter material will make it easier to keep the filter clean

CNET recommended washing the older filters. Not the Aeroforce but the blue ones. I can try one and see what happens.

The Botvac filter looks to be a perfect fit with only trimming on one side
https://www.amazon.com/Neato-Standard-F ... 2470955011
Use only OEM Neato standard filter (Not Hepa) and modify the Roomba filter to hold the Neato filter.
Vic if you have some old dirty filters around the shop, is this Mod doable, Thanks

Are those even HEPA filters? I don't want to downgrade my filter quality to save some money. I'd rather have a cleaner house and more efficient robot.

Yes Standard Filter would be best. The Standard filter can last the life of the machine with proper care.
The Question at this point is how hard is it to disassemble and reassemble the 900 series filter.
Not wanting to thread hijack, but my suggestion would be to mod, if possible, not wash.

Washing the original worked! I used a cleaner for microfiber towels and it pulled all the dirt right out. It's bright white again. Not sure how many times I can do this but I can keep you posted. Even if you can do it twice it helps!
I attached a pic so you can see what I used.
